Where to start

There are 53 pages here, which is more than anyone wants to browse blindly. A short orientation:

• If you want a number, start with the inflation calculator. Enter an amount and a year and it converts it to today's money using the Consumer Price Index, for the rupee from 1960 and for the dollar, euro and yuan as well.
• If you want it applied to your own situation, the four planners are more specific: salary for whether your pay has kept up, college costs and retirement for projecting forward, and the price tracker for measuring your own rate rather than the national average.
• If you want to understand the mechanism, the 18 tutorials explain how the index is built, why a fixed deposit can lose money in real terms, how EMI actually works, and what hyperinflation does.
• If you want the human version, the 18 blog posts trace single prices through decades — a cup of chai, an auto fare, a wedding, a father's grocery bill — which tends to land harder than a percentage.
• If you would rather play, there are three games: a price quiz, a daily guess-the-year puzzle and inflation bingo. All three draw on the same price series as the calculators.

Everything on the site is free, requires no account, and stores anything you enter in your own browser rather than on a server. A machine-readable index lives at sitemap.xml, and there is an RSS feed for new articles.
